I wasn't expecting evidence that my predictions were going to come true _this_ fast.

Domestic Politics and Agendas

3) Turns out I was wrong about John Ashcroft. He has resigned and Bush's first pick for a replacement is another member of his inner circle, Alberto Gonzales. He seems to be a bit of an improvement, but since he has tried to figure out a way around the law to give Bush the authority to authorize torture and advised him to ignore the "obsolete" Geneva Convention, I'm not all that impressed.

6) Gonzales is a bit more moderate than Ashcroft but not by all that much.

7) Climate change at the poles seems to be quite severe, and the Himalayan glaciers are not only melting, but are not even really being monitored any more. The US is still out of the Kyoto treaty and there has been no mention of work on increasing domestic environmental protection. After all, it is a moral issue to keep gays from marrying, but not one to ensure that future generations have a planet that humans can live on.

8) Talk about dead on, opening up ANWR is already being pushed. Thanks Pete.

Foreign Relations

3) Wow! Even Colin Powell, the only dove in the White House, is saying that the US will continue its "aggressive" foreign policy. I have lost so much respect for him it isn't funny.

Economics

1) The EIA, which had peen predicting that oil will drop back to its normal price levels Real Soon Now for the last year, has admitted that high oil prices are here to stay. Also, look at the prices for heating oil and propane. Ouch.

2) The Fed is starting to give warnings about governmental debt and trade deficits, while the dollar has sunk to record lows against the euro.

4) Foreign investment in American securities is already starting to drop, as the story about dollar-euro exchange rates mentioned at the end.

6) Delta is taking drastic steps to try and fix its problems.

Finally, a really accurate bit of political humor.
