I, with the help of [livejournal.com profile] aquestrian, did a bit of decorating.

My bedroom had been very empty and bare, but now it feels far more comfortable.

And I got a surprise out of it!!

My mantle also has a few things.

The greenery makes everything feel better.

Today we installed new carpet, specificaly Flor. It's great! It may not be the softest carpet, but it should be very durable and easy to clean. The total installation time was just over two hours. Of course, that doesn't count the six or eight hours it took to remove the furniture, old carpet, clean up the floor and patch the pits in the concrete. That was yesterday though, so it doesn't count.

I have three tiles left over. I'll probably use them for welcome mats. I also have some small scraps from cutting the edge tiles. Not certain what I'll use them for, but I have a few ideas...

Weekendness
Friday - Mom and little sister got in in the evening. We went to 328 Chinese, which has all the wonderful food that I was hoping for. John surprised us with fried ice cream for dessert.

Saturday - [livejournal.com profile] cleotigermom came up to shuffle children around with mom. We went out for good BBQ before mom took the kids on the trip and [livejournal.com profile] cleotigermom went back home. That night I went to [livejournal.com profile] aisa0's party, checked out his spiffy new house, drank some mead and drummed a bit.

Sunday - A nice late start to the day, followed by some gardening with [livejournal.com profile] alzarqa13, first at her place then at mine.

WoW and Life Changes
I canceled my WoW account today. I'm not really playing it much any more, as I'm busy with other things that I enjoy. I have until 4/19 before it to actually expires, so if I find myself playing again I can uncancel it pretty easily.
I'm not riding my bike as much as I would like, which I should fix. I am doing a lot of work on the house, and I really appreciate the help that [livejournal.com profile] sacra_imbri, [livejournal.com profile] alzarqa13, ~G~, [livejournal.com profile] cleotigermom and everyone else has given me. Actually, it seems like home improvement has taken up what was previously my WoW time. This may be a bad thing, since WoW is cheaper. ;D

Request for Ideas
On the home improvement train of thought, I need some help. In my front yard I'm going to be pulling two juniper bushes and a dying pine tree soon, and I have no idea what to replace them with. The area I'm concerned with is ~400 sq ft, and will contain an aloe, a prickly pear and a desert willow. There is a currently defunct sprinkler system that covers the area, but with a very small amount of money and a Saturday I could get it functioning again. I want a ground cover that is no/low water, easy to maintain and will get rid of what is currently growing there, namely ragweed, crabgrass and goatheads. Any ideas? So far all I've come up with is gravel, which is ok, but I'd like some more options.

The day dawned nicely. I took care of a few things, then decided it was time to get to work.

Circular saw? Check!
Drill? Check!
Bits? Check!
Measuring tape? Check!
Pencils? Check!
Lumber? Check!

Today I was planning on putting the edging down for my front side yard, so I start cutting the timbers to length. After getting four cut it is time to lay them out and set them in. I moved a little bit of dirt with the help of [livejournal.com profile] sacra_imbri to make nice beds for them, then drill out the holes for the rebar pins.

The first timber will be the one that edges against the driveway from the sidewalk half way to the gate. I put the first pin in the predrilled hole and start driving it in with my new sledge.

burble?

Damn.

I call the city to turn off the water so we can see what pipe I just broke. After much digging, bailing, more digging, more bailing, a second call to the city so the guy can really turn off the water, more bailing and more digging it turns out that I broke clean through the supply line for my as yet untested irrigation system and one of its feeder lines.

A trip across town to Lowes to get some PVC bits and it is fixed, but now it is too late in the day to get anything else done. And I'm covered in mud.

On the other hand, I now know where my sprinkler lines run, and that the main valve works. I think I'll test the rest of the system next weekend along with finishing up the pavers.

Today I dug a hole. Half by myself and half with the help of [livejournal.com profile] sacra_imbri and our friendly neighbor. I also picked up the mats for everything else needed to finish the paver patio except for sand. It turns out that every bulk sand supplier in Burque closes at noon on Saturday and isn't open on Sunday. Lowes sells the right kind of sand, but only in rather pricey 1/2 cu ft bags.

Estrella was great. I saw a lot of people there that I haven't in years and got in some really good fighting. I'm impressed with the new Golias boys fighters.

I don't usually do the meme bit, but I like these. Cut for your pleasure.
