Akon

So I went to Akon this past weekend. Lots of fun. So I'll be doing three posts. The first will be an overview of what happened, who I saw, what I got, etc. The second will be a bunch of random observations I made, and the third will be pictures, including a special treat for [livejournal.com profile] seraphimcloud. Stay tuned

The ride there was long and boring, and west texas is a horrible place. Once we got to the con, however, there were an amazing number of l33t things to do.

[livejournal.com profile] sacra_imbri and I decided to go to the Megatokyo forum as our first order of business. I didn't start for 1.5 hours, but we went to the room anyway so that we could get good seats. Came in in the middle of a cosplay forum. which was OK. Next was a voice actor forum. This was interesting. It had a bunch of american voice actors including the guy that does the voice of Hamtaro, the guy that does the voice of Goku and the woman that does the voices of Gohan and Chi-Chi. She looks like Bulma. Exactly like Bulma.

Finally, the MT forums started. Fred and Sara got a standing ovation as they walked to the front of the room. Sara really does look like she does in MT, except that she is really tall. Fred really is that sad and unsure. He is also terrified of his fans. I'm fairly certain that Sara is there just to keep him from running away at the sight of a few hundred of us packed into a small room. About 10 of the 30 forbidden questions were asked, much to Fred's dismay. (Random aside - My writing really sucks doesn't it? I think it comes from writing so much technical stuff and so little creative stuff.)

Anyway, after the forum we went downstairs to the comic mart. [livejournal.com profile] sacra_imbri delayed me getting on the escalator so that I ended up riding down next to Fred and Sara!!! I was so excited I almost had to change my pants. Once downstairs he and Sara signed my copy of MT vol 2 with a head shot of Miho, and [livejournal.com profile] sacra_imbri's IAC shirt. w00t!

The dealer room was nifty, I ended up getting the acoustic Lain soundtrack and a GothicLolita picture/pattern book. It has about a dozen outfits and complete patterns for everything in it. I'm picking out enough from the pictures and charts that I should be able to make almost everything that is in it.

The comic market was very nifty. If I make it to AWA I am going to spend a lot more time there getting commissions. I did get one done by a really cute girl that, according to [livejournal.com profile] skitzycat, "draws good smut". Turns out that, yes, she does draw good smut. Yes, you will get to see it later.

I ended up in a video room that was showing lame shojou crap all day. After watching it for a while I realized I was enjoying lame shojou crap and considering buying some. This worries me. It's like I'm turning into Fred or something except without the ability to draw or write.

Went to a showing of the RHPS by the Dallas group Three More Doritos. The preshow was lame beyond all reason. Even the worst preshow that we have ever done was an order of magnitude better than this one. Once that show got started is was amazing. The actors knew their parts perfectly, the costumes were amazing, the props were dead on and I heard all sorts of new call backs.

I was really amazed by the cosplay at A-kon. I would guess that about 40% of the people there cosplayed, and a surprising number of them were really good. There will be pictures later.

Throughout the con I was wanting to post short updates here, but didn't have access. I'm going to have to start looking into a paid account.

And that is it for now. I will be posting random observations and pictures later today.
